Crazy Caterpillars

The best part about starting a butterfly garden is seeing all the places these crazy caterpillars decide to make their chrysalises.

Out of all the butterflies we have here at the garden the monarch caterpillars always seem to end up in the funniest places.

Starting with my favorite,

is this monarch caterpillar that made its way from our milkweed plant about 10 feet away to the ear of this buddha statue

They seem to have a thing for hanging onto our statues

We keep our milkweed in a full sun so they're always trying to find a shady place to hang.

We have a bunch of host plants at the garden but the monarch chrysalises seem to be the easiest to find.

Every once in a while I get lucky enough to spot a

Swallowtail or Giant Swallowtail chrysalis.

Despite having a whole bunch of different caterpillars like Gulf Fritillaries

their chrysalises always seem to disappear and they just reappear again as butterflies.

My search for more varieties of chrysalises will continue but until then I'll just enjoy watching these monarch caterpillars popping up everywhere unexpected.

I will never get tired of finding these crazy caterpillars!
